Launchbay Capital has officially appointed Alexander Frick as Head of Europe.
In the new role, Frick will bring institutional sourcing relationships and an investor network spanning Europe, the Gulf, and Asia to Launchbay's global secondaries platform.
His institutional private markets experience spans more than two decades across secondaries, private equity, venture capital, and special situations.
In his last role at Lombard Odier, Frick built the private bank's secondaries business from inception and scaled it to more than $1 billion in AUM as Co-Head of Secondaries. Most recently, he founded AF1.VC, a specialized direct technology secondaries firm.
Frick began his career in investment banking at Morgan Stanley before moving to the buy side at Novator Partners and later HarbourVest Partners.
"Alex brings a strong institutional background in secondaries and deep experience working with both institutional and private wealth clients," said Alan Vaksman, Founding Partner of Launchbay Capital. "European secondaries are at an inflection point, with growing demand for liquidity from founders and early investors and a widening pool of institutional capital looking for disciplined access to the market."
Launchbay is a specialist private markets firm focused on late-stage growth secondaries. Founded in 2018, the firm manages more than $350 million in assets across a portfolio of more than 55 privately held technology companies.
Launchbay gives investors access to technology companies across AI infrastructure, fintech, space, and cybersecurity through a concentrated series of short-duration, actively managed closed-end vehicles. In October last year, the firm closed its oversubscribed Launchbay Secondary Growth Fund I, which targets secondary stakes in late-stage companies to drive portfolio performance.
Launchbay's strategy is to be active at both ends of every deal, with entry through secondary transactions and an exit strategy aimed at returning capital within the relevant technology cycle, typically within three to four years of entry.
"Venture is finally being treated as an asset class that has to return capital, not just mark it up," said Frick. "Europe's secondaries market is consolidating around the few managers with genuine proprietary access and a track-record of actually exiting positions, and Launchbay is one of them. That alignment on DPI rather than deployment is what made this the right platform."
